15-Minute Workout Ideas for Busy People

With so much going on in your day, including work and family obligations, study, and so much else, finding time to work out can be hard. Fortunately, you don’t have to endure a lengthy gym class period to keep active. An intense 15-minute workout can be a great boost to your energy, strength and consistency.

It’s about selecting easy activities and doing as much as possible during this time.

1. Full-Body Bodyweight Workout

There are no equipment requirements, and this exercise can be performed without any equipment in your home.

Do each exercise for 40 seconds and then rest for 20 seconds:

  • Bodyweight squats
Push-ups using a wall or knees
  • Reverse lunges
  • Glute bridges
  • Plank shoulder taps

Make the circuit three times. Walk at an inclination level and concentration on form, not speed.

2. Quick Cardio Circuit

Short increases your HR and is a great opportunity to get your blood flowing when you’re sitting down.

Make use of these exercises for 30 seconds at a time:

A slow pace using the legs

  • Jumping jacks
  • High knees
  • Step-ups
  • Mountain climbers

After each round rest for about 30 seconds, then repeat this for 3 rounds. A novice may choose to substitute jumping actions with less pronounced ones.

3. 15-Minute Walking Workout

Walking represents some of the simplest forms of exercise, and one of the easiest ways to fit this into a busy day. Go at a leisurely pace for 2 minutes then go at a brisk pace for 1 minute. Repeat, alternating, until 15 minutes is reached.

This could be done outside the home, on a treadmill, in a shopping centre or around work. Walking for a short distance after supper can rejuvenate you.

4. Desk-Break Mobility Routine

After a prolonged sitting time, take a short break to stretch and loosen tight places, move the joints, etc.

Add on the shoulder circles, standing side bends, hip circles, chair squats, calf raises and soft stretches of chest. Take approximately 1 minute for each movement and repeat. Use all stretches in a comfortable range and do not overstretch to uncomfortable ranges.

5. Beginner Strength Workout

Work with a resistance band, light dumbbells or items in your home, like water bottles.

Do Two or Three laps of:

  • 10 squats
  • 8 to 12 rows
  • 8 to 12 overhead presses
  • 10 glute bridges
  • 20-second plank

Rest when needed. Add resistance when movements can be completed with good control.

How to Stay Consistent

Make the 15 minute workout an appointment. Plan clothes or equipment and think of a convenient spot and supply an alternate plan for days when things are going well.

Try to link exercise to an existing habit, like exercising after breakfast or in the evening before bed or after work. The tracking progress on a calendar makes progress easier to see.

Conclusion

It is possible for a short work out to be worthwhile if it is done regularly. It doesn’t matter if you go for a walk, do some cardio, strength training, or mobility exercises – 15 minutes is enough to keep you busy and get moving without taking up much of your time.

Try using two or three sessions a week, which exercises to choose and how to increase their difficulty. The longest is not necessarily the best. It’s the one you can keep going.
